I was making my own point. Saying that he's allowed to have a joke fall flat once in a while. I exactly agree that if you don't think a joke is funny, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be told. That's my whole point here.

As for the last paragraph, I'm not sure what the point is. Are you saying that fighting for free speech in comedy and the media isn't worth it because it isn't as worthy as cause as those you listed?

I'd be happy to discuss this issue more if you'd clarify a little bit more of what you meant. Thanks for the comment!Laniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651300247881563206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5545515711150438019.post-75939721442834358112016-02-18T14:10:08.065-06:002016-02-18T14:10:08.065-06:00"and we shouldn't be policing every singl..."and we shouldn't be policing every single one of his jokes"

makes me think you've missed the point a bit. His point is that its gross to think it's our job to go out & police each other on some trumped up platform of moral indignation. If you don't think a joke is funny, you don't have to 'speak on behalf of all wounded women.'

Are you fighting against the DARK Act, Citizen's United, voter registration laws? Fighting anti-abortionists? GMO labeling? The takeover of Native American land for mining, even today? These are a few of the places where the fight for free speech is taking place.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00584758268704123271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5545515711150438019.post-69208492429331738622016-02-18T11:49:08.327-06:002016-02-18T11:49:08.327-06:00Thanks for the kind words! I think anyone who has grown up in this era of changing technology and social norms can see these behaviors not only in our friends but in ourselves as well. I take and post a lot of selfies too! It's nice to have a reminder once in a while to put down the phone and experience life.

I didn't mean to write the post to attack anyone - like I said, I post selfies too - and I hope no one takes it personally. I wrote it more to urge people to just think about the ramifications of the selfie culture we live in.Laniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651300247881563206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5545515711150438019.post-12479893260819698552016-02-18T11:32:48.548-06:002016-02-18T11:32:48.548-06:00Very well written, important, and so true! It's always felt somehow "wrong" and narcissistic to me to regularly and frequently post photos of yourself on FB. You give plenty of good, specific reasons why this kind of self-obsession is harmful to not only ourselves, but to our relationships and the very way we view the world around us. Thanks for a great, thought-provoking read. I wish I could share it on FB, but many of my friends might take it personally:) That's how much of a real phenomenon this "selfie culture" has become.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5545515711150438019.post-72992104375030236322011-08-20T15:16:30.360-05:002011-08-20T15:16:30.360-05:00Oliver is co cute! An inspirational speaker for the support staff at the district once told us, "You have plenty of time to do everything--it is how you choose to use your time that is the indicator of how much you will get done." I didn't think it was all that inspirational, but the words " how you choose to use your time" come back to haunt me when I don't get something done that I know "I should have/would have/could have" if I hadn't chosen to do something else with my time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5545515711150438019.post-40956060936944230522011-08-03T17:18:37.031-05:002011-08-03T17:18:37.031-05:00Hm. Your profile caught my attention because your birthday is one day before mine. I thought, a Libra has always good taste and tons of insights. Then I got curious about your blog. Anyways. I agree with you on everything you just said in this post. Your writing is very captivating. I enjoyed it even though English is not my mother's tongue and I avoid it sometimes. I live in the United States because my husband is Texan. We're both pretty scared of living here although it's going to be hard to get out. I look forward to subscribing to your blog.
Regards,
A.Anhelohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03262920229067080939noreply@blogger.com
