Everyone Needs a Cause

This is why I walk.

In March of 2009 my Grandpa, who'd acted as a father figure for me for as long as I can remember, died of pancreatic cancer. It had gone undiagnosed for months and by the time they figured it out, it was far too late. He lived 6 months from diagnosis. Last year, I decided to walk in Pancan's PurpleStride Chicago, to raise money for pancreatic cancer. We raised more than $500 and had a lot of fun doing it. This year, I plan to walk again and I hope to raise at least that - although my goal is to raise twice as much.

Here's some facts as to why you should donate:
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network was founded in 1999 as a patient-based advocacy network for pancreatic cancer. Their mission is to work together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. And their goal is to double to pancreatic cancer survival rate by 2020. Survival rates have remained in the single digits for 40 years. Look at pancreatic cancer survival rates and you'll see something is definitely wrong. Today, the five year survival rate is just 6%. They plan to double the survival rate by combining research, support for individuals and families living with the disease, raising awareness and building and sustaining federal support.

PurpleStride is a 5k walk that is held all over the country. If you're interested in seeing if they hold an event near you visit PurpleStride.org. Chicago's Purple Stride will be held on April 28th in Lincoln Park. If you'd like to donate to our team you can either click the donate link on the widget to the right of this post or visit our donation page. If you're interested in walking with us please visit our team page and click the link to join our team.

Please consider donating even just $1 to our team and help raise money so we can help the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network achieve their goal of doubling the survival rate by 2020.
