Personal Opinion Post #3: Why Couponing Isn't Working for Me

I'm so sorry that all my posts have been late. I haven't gotten back into the groove of blogging yet.
I'll get there.
Recently, it has come to my attention that, as a college student with little to no income, I need to come up with ways to save money in almost everything. I had heard about the couponing craze and thought I might try it. As far as I knew, people were saving hundreds of dollars clipping coupons. I thought it would be a great - and easy - way to save money. Unfortunately, I was misled.

I did a little bit of research before I decided to start actually attempting to collect coupons. Apparently, it's super easy and everyone is saving buckets of money. Not true. It is actually very hard to find coupons online that I could use at the grocery store I shop at and even harder to find online manufacturers coupons. I bought a Sunday paper, hoping that there would be lots of useful coupons in there. Wrong again. There were two for products that I actually needed, barely saving the amount I spent on the paper ($1.50).

It turns out, buying store brand and sale shopping is a much better way to save money. I have never had any bad luck with store brand products. Honestly, I can't tell the difference. The only thing I will spend money to get name brand for is toilet paper. I have a sensitive backside.

Looking for those handy red stickers for sale items is also helpful. You'd be surprised how much money you can save without clipping anything.

Here's my advice: put down the scissors and buy store brand instead.
